Coinbase Adds Wall Street to Its UK Crypto App With 4,000 Stocks
Coinbase began rolling out 24/5 trading in nearly 4,000 US stocks to eligible UK users on 6 August 2026. Customers can buy fractional shares from £1 with zero commission, funding trades in pounds or USDC.

Coinbase opens nearly 4,000 US stocks to UK users
Coinbase started rolling out US stock trading to eligible United Kingdom (UK) users on 6 August 2026. The exchange opened access to nearly 4,000 US equities directly inside its main app. Trading runs 24 hours a day, five days a week, a schedule the company calls 24/5. Coinbase said it is the first crypto-native trading app to offer US stocks to UK customers. Eligible users gain access progressively rather than all at once, so the feature reaches accounts in stages.
Trades start from one pound with zero commission
Users can buy fractional shares from £1, about $1.35, which lowers the entry point for smaller investors. Every trade carries zero commission. Customers fund purchases with British pounds (GBP) or USD Coin (USDC), a dollar-pegged stablecoin. Coinbase said settlement is instant. Users can move between cash and shares without a wait. The setup places equities next to crypto balances in one account.
A MiFID licence from the FCA enabled the launch
The launch follows a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) investment services licence that Coinbase secured from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the UK regulator. The licence lets the company offer regulated equities trading beside its crypto services on a single platform. The FCA's authorisation gateway for crypto firms is due to open in September 2026. The UK's broader crypto regime is set to take effect in October 2027, which will tighten rules across the market.
The shares are real equities, not tokenised versions
The offering uses real US equities, not tokenised versions that trade on a blockchain. Apex Clearing, a US clearing firm, holds the shares in custody. Coinbase Capital Markets Corporation handles trade execution. Reporting on the launch noted that US-based protections replace the UK's Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) for these equities.
USDC held its dollar peg at publication
USDC traded at $1.00 at the time of publication, effectively flat over the prior 24 hours (CoinPaprika, 7 August 2026). The stablecoin ranked fifth by market value at about $71.8 billion on the same date. That scale gives UK users a dollar funding route inside the same app, without a separate currency conversion step. USDC sits at the centre of Coinbase's plan to link cash, stablecoins and now equities.
The launch advances the Everything Exchange strategy
The rollout extends Coinbase's Everything Exchange strategy. The company wants customers to reach crypto, stocks, stablecoins and savings products from one platform. Keith Grose, Coinbase's Regional Managing Director for the UK and Europe, framed the launch as another step toward that goal.
"We've made great progress in recent months in building Coinbase into a one-stop shop where users can seamlessly access stocks, stablecoins, savings, and more from a single platform.", 6 August 2026. — Keith Grose, Regional Managing Director UK and Europe, Coinbase
Stocks join Coinbase's growing UK product range
Stocks now sit alongside the other services Coinbase offers UK customers. The app already provides crypto trading, stablecoin access and savings products, and the company has pointed to borrowing tools as well. Adding equities widens that range into mainstream investing. Grose said the company aims to bridge traditional finance and onchain finance as it adds more services.
