Zilliqa (ZIL)
What is Zilliqa?
Zilliqa (ZIL) is a cryptocurrency that operates on its own blockchain, designed to facilitate high-throughput decentralized applications and smart contracts. The Zilliqa token is primarily used for transaction fees, staking, and governance within the Zilliqa ecosystem. This blockchain project leverages sharding technology to enhance scalability, enabling it to process thousands of transactions per second, making it suitable for various applications, from finance to gaming.
When and how did Zilliqa start?
Zilliqa (ZIL) was launched in 2017, developed by a team of researchers and engineers from the National University of Singapore. The project aimed to address scalability issues in blockchain technology through its innovative sharding mechanism. In 2018, Zilliqa conducted a successful initial coin offering (ICO), raising approximately $22 million, and was initially listed on major exchanges such as Binance and Huobi. The platform has since evolved, focusing on smart contract capabilities and decentralized applications, solidifying its position in the blockchain ecosystem.
What’s coming up for Zilliqa?
Zilliqa (ZIL) is set to enhance its ecosystem with the upcoming launch of its Zilliqa 2.0 upgrade, which aims to improve scalability and introduce smart contract capabilities on its Layer 2 solutions. The roadmap includes the integration of zkEVM technology, allowing for more efficient transactions and reduced costs, which is expected to attract more developers and projects to the platform. Additionally, Zilliqa is focusing on expanding its community engagement through initiatives like hackathons and partnerships, aiming to foster innovation and real-world applications in sectors such as gaming and decentralized finance (DeFi). With these strategic advancements, Zilliqa is poised for significant growth and increased adoption in the blockchain space.
What makes Zilliqa stand out?
Zilliqa (ZIL) is unique compared to other cryptocurrencies due to its innovative sharding technology, which enhances scalability by processing transactions in parallel, allowing for thousands of transactions per second. This standout technology enables real-world use cases such as decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts, making Zilliqa a robust platform for developers. Additionally, Zilliqa employs a hybrid consensus mechanism that combines proof-of-work and practical Byzantine fault tolerance, ensuring both security and efficiency in its ecosystem.
What can you do with Zilliqa?
Zilliqa (ZIL) is primarily used for payments, enabling fast and low-cost transactions on its blockchain. It serves as a utility token for staking, allowing users to earn rewards, and is integral to various DeFi apps and NFT platforms built on the Zilliqa network. Additionally, ZIL holders can participate in governance, influencing the future development of the ecosystem.
Is Zilliqa still active or relevant?
Zilliqa (ZIL) is currently active and still traded on various exchanges, reflecting a healthy trading activity. Development is ongoing, with regular updates from the team, and the community remains engaged through various initiatives and discussions. Overall, Zilliqa is not considered an inactive project or abandoned, as it continues to evolve within the crypto space.
Who is Zilliqa designed for?
Zilliqa (ZIL) is built for developers and businesses seeking to create scalable decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts. Its unique sharding technology allows for high throughput and low transaction fees, making it ideal for DeFi users and enterprises looking to leverage blockchain solutions. Additionally, Zilliqa fosters a community of innovators and creators, aiming to drive the adoption of blockchain technology across various industries.
How is Zilliqa secured?
Zilliqa (ZIL) secures its network through a unique consensus mechanism called Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) combined with Proof of Work (PoW) for initial block validation. This hybrid approach enhances network security by utilizing a sharding technique that allows multiple validators to process transactions in parallel, thereby ensuring efficient blockchain protection and scalability. Validators in Zilliqa are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network through their active participation in the consensus process.
Has Zilliqa faced any controversy or risks?
Zilliqa (ZIL) has faced challenges related to extreme volatility, which can pose significant risks for investors. Additionally, the project has been scrutinized for its security incidents, including a notable hack in 2020 that led to the loss of user funds. While Zilliqa has not been directly involved in major legal issues or rug pulls, the broader market's regulatory uncertainties remain a concern for its long-term stability.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
