What is Platypus Finance?
Platypus Finance (PTP) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol launched in 2021. It was created to provide a unique solution for stablecoin swaps and liquidity provision on the Avalanche blockchain. The platform enables users to trade stablecoins with low slippage and earn yield through liquidity mining. Platypus Finance operates on the Avalanche network, utilizing its high throughput and low transaction costs to facilitate efficient trading and liquidity provision. The native token, PTP, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including governance, staking, and incentivizing liquidity providers. What sets Platypus Finance apart is its innovative single-sided liquidity provision model, which allows users to deposit a single asset (such as a stablecoin) rather than requiring pairs of assets. This feature simplifies the process for users and enhances capital efficiency. Overall, Platypus Finance aims to create a user-friendly and efficient environment for stablecoin trading and liquidity management within the DeFi space.
When and how did Platypus Finance start?
Platypus Finance originated in December 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision for a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform focused on efficient stablecoin swaps. The project launched its testnet in early 2022, allowing users to experiment with its features and provide feedback before the mainnet launch. The mainnet went live in March 2022, marking its initial public availability and enabling users to engage with the platform's core functionalities. Early development focused on creating a unique liquidity pool model that aimed to enhance capital efficiency and reduce slippage for stablecoin transactions. The initial distribution of the platform's native token occurred through a fair launch mechanism, which allowed participants to acquire tokens without the constraints of traditional fundraising methods like ICOs or IEOs. These foundational steps established the groundwork for Platypus Finance's growth and its integration into the broader DeFi ecosystem.
What’s coming up for Platypus Finance?
According to official updates, Platypus Finance is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade aimed at enhancing liquidity and user experience, scheduled for Q1 2024. This upgrade will introduce new features designed to optimize capital efficiency and improve transaction speeds. Additionally, Platypus Finance is working on integrating with several decentralized exchanges to expand its ecosystem and increase user access to liquidity pools. A governance vote is also planned for Q2 2024, which will allow the community to participate in key decisions regarding future developments and protocol adjustments. These milestones aim to strengthen the platform's competitive edge and enhance overall user engagement, with progress being tracked through their official channels.

How is Platypus Finance secured?
Platypus Finance operates on the Avalanche blockchain, utilizing a consensus mechanism known as Avalanche Consensus. This mechanism allows for rapid transaction finality and high throughput, as validators participate in a unique voting process to confirm transactions and maintain the integrity of the network. To secure transactions, Platypus Finance employs cryptographic techniques such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) for authentication and ensuring data integrity. The network incentivizes participants through staking rewards, where users can lock their assets to support the validation process, thereby earning rewards for their contributions. Additionally, the protocol incorporates slashing mechanisms to penalize malicious behavior, ensuring that validators act in the network's best interest. To further enhance security, Platypus Finance undergoes regular audits and maintains governance processes that allow the community to participate in decision-making, contributing to the overall resilience and security of the platform.
Has Platypus Finance faced any controversy or risks?
Platypus Finance has faced significant controversy involving a security incident in February 2023, where the platform suffered a major exploit resulting in the loss of approximately $8.5 million. This incident was attributed to a vulnerability in the smart contract code, which allowed an attacker to manipulate the protocol's liquidity pools. In response, the Platypus team promptly initiated a thorough investigation and worked with security experts to identify the root cause of the exploit. They implemented a patch to address the vulnerability and subsequently conducted a comprehensive audit of their smart contracts to prevent future incidents. Additionally, the team communicated transparently with the community regarding the incident and its implications. They also established a reimbursement plan for affected users, demonstrating their commitment to addressing the fallout from the exploit. Ongoing risks for Platypus Finance include market volatility and potential regulatory scrutiny, which are mitigated through continuous development practices, regular audits, and a focus on enhancing security measures within the platform.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
