What is Polkastarter?
Polkastarter (POLS) is a decentralized fundraising platform launched in 2020 by a team of blockchain enthusiasts. It was created to facilitate cross-chain token pools and auctions, enabling projects to raise capital in a decentralized manner. The platform operates on the Ethereum blockchain and utilizes a unique model that allows users to participate in token sales from various blockchain ecosystems. The native token, POLS, serves multiple purposes within the Polkastarter ecosystem, including governance, staking, and providing liquidity for token sales. Users can stake POLS to earn rewards and gain access to exclusive token offerings, enhancing their participation in the platform. Polkastarter stands out for its focus on interoperability and its ability to support projects across different blockchain networks, positioning it as a significant player in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Its innovative approach to fundraising and community engagement has made it a notable platform for new projects seeking to launch their tokens.
When and how did Polkastarter start?
Polkastarter originated in September 2020 when the founding team, consisting of co-founders Daniel Stockhaus, Tiago Martins, and others, released its whitepaper. The project aimed to create a decentralized platform for cross-chain token pools and auctions, facilitating fundraising for new projects in the blockchain space. Polkastarter launched its testnet in October 2020, allowing developers and users to explore its functionalities before the mainnet release. The mainnet was subsequently launched in December 2020, marking its initial public availability and operational capabilities. The initial distribution of the POLS token occurred through a fair launch model in early 2021, which included liquidity mining and community incentives. These foundational steps established Polkastarter as a significant player in the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, enabling projects to raise capital efficiently while providing users with access to new tokens.
What’s coming up for Polkastarter?
According to official updates, Polkastarter is preparing for the launch of its new governance model, which is planned for Q1 2024. This upgrade aims to enhance community participation and decision-making within the platform. Additionally, Polkastarter is working on integrating new blockchain networks to expand its multi-chain capabilities, with targeted integrations expected throughout 2024. These initiatives are designed to improve user experience and broaden the ecosystem's reach. Progress on these milestones will be tracked through their official channels, ensuring transparency and community engagement in the development process.

Who is Polkastarter designed for?
Polkastarter is designed for developers and users within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, enabling them to launch and participate in token sales and fundraising initiatives. It provides essential tools and resources, including a user-friendly platform for creating and managing decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and token offerings. Developers can leverage Polkastarter's infrastructure to build and deploy their projects efficiently, while users can access a variety of new tokens and investment opportunities. Secondary participants, such as liquidity providers and creators, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the platform's liquidity and decision-making processes. This collaborative environment fosters innovation and growth within the blockchain space, allowing all participants to benefit from the evolving DeFi landscape. By catering to these diverse user groups, Polkastarter aims to enhance accessibility and participation in decentralized fundraising and trading activities.
How is Polkastarter secured?
Polkastarter utilizes a decentralized architecture built on the Ethereum blockchain, employing a Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus mechanism. In this model, a limited number of trusted validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. This approach allows for faster transaction finality while ensuring that only authorized nodes can validate transactions. The protocol employs cryptographic techniques such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) for authentication and to ensure data integrity. This cryptography secures user transactions and protects against unauthorized access. Incentive alignment is achieved through a governance model that allows token holders to participate in decision-making processes, including protocol upgrades and changes. While Polkastarter does not implement traditional staking or slashing mechanisms, it encourages responsible behavior through community governance and the potential for rewards tied to participation in the ecosystem. Additional safeguards include regular audits and a bug bounty program, which help identify vulnerabilities and enhance the network's security. These measures contribute to Polkastarter's resilience and reliability as a platform for decentralized fundraising.
Has Polkastarter faced any controversy or risks?
Polkastarter has faced some controversy and risks primarily related to security and regulatory challenges. In early 2021, the platform experienced a significant security incident where a vulnerability in its smart contracts was exploited, leading to the loss of user funds. The team responded promptly by conducting a thorough audit of their contracts and implementing necessary patches to enhance security. They also initiated a bug bounty program to incentivize the community to identify potential vulnerabilities. Additionally, Polkastarter has navigated regulatory scrutiny, particularly concerning compliance with securities laws in various jurisdictions. The team has worked to ensure that their offerings align with regulatory requirements, which included adjusting their token sale processes and enhancing transparency. Ongoing risks for Polkastarter include market volatility and the inherent risks associated with decentralized finance (DeFi) projects, such as smart contract vulnerabilities and liquidity issues. To mitigate these risks, Polkastarter continues to prioritize security audits, maintain transparent communication with its community, and adapt its governance practices to address emerging challenges.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
