What is MovieBloc?
MovieBloc (MBL) is a blockchain-based platform launched in 2018, designed to revolutionize the film distribution industry. It aims to address issues such as high distribution costs and limited access to global audiences for filmmakers. By leveraging blockchain technology, MovieBloc enables a decentralized ecosystem where filmmakers can directly connect with viewers, thereby reducing intermediaries and associated costs. The project operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing smart contracts to facilitate transactions and interactions within its ecosystem. The native token, MBL, serves multiple purposes, including payment for content, incentivizing user engagement, and enabling governance within the platform. MovieBloc stands out for its unique approach to democratizing film distribution, allowing independent filmmakers to retain more control over their work and revenue. This innovative model positions MovieBloc as a significant player in the evolving landscape of digital content distribution, promoting transparency and accessibility in the film industry.
When and how did MovieBloc start?
MovieBloc originated in March 2018 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision to create a decentralized movie distribution platform. The project aimed to empower content creators and provide a fair revenue-sharing model for filmmakers and audiences alike. Following the whitepaper release, MovieBloc launched its mainnet in December 2019, marking its initial public availability and enabling users to engage with the platform's features. Early development focused on establishing a robust ecosystem that would facilitate the distribution and monetization of films through blockchain technology. The token's initial distribution occurred via an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2018, which helped raise funds for the project's development and marketing efforts. These foundational steps set the stage for MovieBloc's growth and its ongoing commitment to revolutionizing the film industry through decentralized solutions.
What’s coming up for MovieBloc?
According to official updates, MovieBloc is preparing for a significant platform upgrade aimed at enhancing user experience and scalability, scheduled for Q1 2024. Who is MovieBloc designed for?
MovieBloc is designed for content creators, consumers, and film industry professionals, enabling them to access and distribute films in a decentralized manner. It provides tools and resources, including a user-friendly platform for filmmakers to showcase their work and for viewers to discover and enjoy diverse films. The platform supports creators by offering a space to monetize their content directly, bypassing traditional distribution channels. Secondary participants, such as validators and community members, engage through governance and staking mechanisms, contributing to the ecosystem's growth and sustainability. By fostering a collaborative environment, MovieBloc aims to empower filmmakers and enhance the viewing experience for audiences, making it easier for independent films to reach a global audience while ensuring fair compensation for creators.
How is MovieBloc secured?
MovieBloc utilizes a delegated proof-of-stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism, where a select group of validators, elected by token holders, confirm transactions and maintain the integrity of the network. This model enhances transaction throughput and finality, allowing for efficient processing of user interactions within the platform. To ensure security and data integrity, MovieBloc employs cryptographic techniques such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) for authentication. This cryptography safeguards user transactions and protects against unauthorized access. Incentives for participants are aligned through staking rewards, where validators earn rewards for their role in securing the network. Additionally, the protocol incorporates slashing mechanisms to penalize malicious behavior, thereby discouraging validators from acting against the network's interests. Further security measures include regular audits and a governance framework that allows token holders to participate in decision-making processes. This multi-faceted approach to security contributes to the overall resilience and reliability of the MovieBloc ecosystem.
Has MovieBloc faced any controversy or risks?
MovieBloc has faced some controversy related to regulatory challenges and community governance issues. In 2020, the project encountered scrutiny regarding its compliance with local regulations, particularly in South Korea, where it was initially launched. This raised concerns about the legal status of its token and the implications for its user base. The team responded by enhancing their compliance measures and engaging with legal advisors to ensure adherence to relevant laws. Additionally, there have been instances of community disputes regarding governance decisions, particularly around the allocation of funds and project direction. The MovieBloc team addressed these issues by implementing more transparent governance processes and encouraging community participation in decision-making. Ongoing risks for MovieBloc include market volatility and regulatory changes, which are common in the blockchain space. To mitigate these risks, the project emphasizes transparency in its operations and maintains regular communication with its community, alongside conducting audits to ensure the security and integrity of its platform.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
