By focusing on enhancing user experience and providing robust financial tools, Yei Finance positions itself as a significant player in the DeFi landscape, catering to both novice and experienced investors looking to engage in yield farming and liquidity mining.
When and how did Yei Finance start?
Yei Finance originated in March 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing developers and early adopters to experiment with its features and functionalities. Following successful testing, Yei Finance transitioned to its mainnet launch in September 2021, marking its official entry into the market. Early development focused on creating a decentralized finance ecosystem that aimed to enhance user experience and accessibility. The token's initial distribution occurred through a fair launch model in October 2021, which allowed community members to participate without the constraints of traditional fundraising methods. These foundational steps established Yei Finance's growth trajectory and laid the groundwork for its ongoing development and community engagement.
What’s coming up for Yei Finance?
According to official updates, Yei Finance is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade aimed at enhancing its scalability and user experience, targeted for Q1 2024. This upgrade will introduce new features designed to optimize transaction speeds and reduce fees, making the platform more accessible to users. Additionally, Yei Finance is planning to integrate with several decentralized applications (dApps) to expand its ecosystem, with partnerships expected to be announced in the coming months. These initiatives are part of Yei Finance's broader strategy to improve its overall performance and user engagement. Progress on these milestones will be tracked through their official roadmap and community updates.
What makes Yei Finance stand out?
Yei Finance distinguishes itself through its innovative Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution, which enhances transaction throughput and reduces latency on the Ethereum blockchain. This architecture allows for faster and more cost-effective transactions, making it particularly appealing for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. Yei Finance incorporates unique mechanisms such as zk-rollups, which ensure privacy and security while maintaining high data availability. The ecosystem is further enriched by strategic partnerships with various DeFi protocols and liquidity providers, enhancing its interoperability and user engagement. Yei Finance also features a robust governance model that empowers its community to participate in decision-making processes, fostering a decentralized approach to development and resource allocation. Additionally, the platform offers a suite of developer tools, including SDKs and APIs, which facilitate seamless integration for developers looking to build on its infrastructure. This combination of advanced technology, community governance, and developer support positions Yei Finance as a distinct player in the evolving DeFi landscape.

Who is Yei Finance designed for?
Yei Finance is designed for both individual users and developers, enabling them to engage in decentralized finance (DeFi) activities and build innovative financial applications. It provides essential tools and resources, including user-friendly wallets and developer SDKs, to facilitate seamless interaction with the platform and support the creation of new financial solutions. Primary users, such as individual investors and DeFi enthusiasts, can utilize Yei Finance for various financial transactions, including trading, lending, and staking, thereby enhancing their investment strategies. Developers are empowered to create and deploy smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps) on the Yei Finance ecosystem, fostering innovation and expanding the platform's capabilities. Secondary participants, including liquidity providers and validators, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the network's stability and decision-making processes. This collaborative environment not only strengthens the Yei Finance ecosystem but also aligns with the broader goals of enhancing financial accessibility and transparency for all users.
How is Yei Finance secured?
Yei Finance employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. This model requires participants to stake a certain amount of YEI tokens to become validators, ensuring they have a vested interest in the network's security. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. Incentives for validators are aligned through staking rewards, which are distributed for successfully validating transactions. To deter malicious behavior, the network incorporates slashing penalties, which can result in the loss of staked tokens if a validator acts dishonestly or fails to perform their duties. Yei Finance also emphasizes security through regular audits and a robust governance framework, allowing token holders to participate in decision-making processes. This multi-faceted approach to security, combining cryptographic safeguards, economic incentives, and community governance, enhances the resilience of the Yei Finance network.
Has Yei Finance faced any controversy or risks?
Yei Finance has faced risks related to smart contract vulnerabilities, which are common in decentralized finance (DeFi) projects. In early 2023, a security audit revealed potential weaknesses in its liquidity pool contracts, raising concerns about the possibility of exploits. The Yei Finance team responded by implementing a series of upgrades to enhance security, including code refactoring and additional testing protocols. To further mitigate risks, Yei Finance established a bug bounty program, encouraging community members to report vulnerabilities in exchange for rewards. This proactive approach aims to strengthen the platform's security posture and build trust within the community. Ongoing risks for Yei Finance include market volatility and regulatory scrutiny, typical for DeFi projects. The team continues to prioritize transparency and regular audits to address these challenges, ensuring that users are informed about potential risks and the measures taken to safeguard their investments.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
