When and how did Permission Coin start?
Permission Coin originated in March 2018 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project aimed to create a decentralized platform that facilitates permissioned access to data and services on the blockchain. Following the whitepaper release, Permission Coin launched its testnet in July 2018, allowing developers and early adopters to experiment with the platform's features and functionalities. The mainnet was subsequently launched in December 2018, marking the official transition to a fully operational blockchain. Early development efforts focused on establishing a robust ecosystem that supports secure and efficient data sharing among users. The initial distribution of Permission Coin tokens occurred through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in April 2018, which helped fund the project's development and community outreach initiatives. These foundational steps set the stage for Permission Coin's growth and its ongoing efforts to enhance blockchain accessibility and usability.

Who is Permission Coin designed for?
Permission Coin is designed for developers and enterprises, enabling them to create and manage permissioned blockchain applications. It provides essential tools and resources, including SDKs and APIs, to facilitate the development and integration of blockchain solutions tailored to specific business needs. The platform aims to streamline processes and enhance security for organizations looking to leverage blockchain technology while maintaining control over their data and user access. Secondary participants, such as validators and liquidity providers, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the overall stability and functionality of the ecosystem. This collaborative environment allows for a diverse range of applications, catering to various industries that require a balance of transparency and privacy in their blockchain implementations.
How is Permission Coin secured?
Permission Coin uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. Participants must stake a certain amount of Permission Coin to become validators, which incentivizes them to act honestly, as their staked assets are at risk. The protocol employs Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) for authentication and ensuring data integrity, providing a robust cryptographic foundation for transaction validation. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators based on their performance and the amount of coin they have staked. Additionally, the network incorporates slashing penalties for validators who act maliciously or fail to validate transactions correctly, further discouraging dishonest behavior. To enhance security, Permission Coin undergoes regular audits and has established governance processes that allow stakeholders to participate in decision-making. The diversity of client implementations also contributes to the network's resilience, reducing the risk of systemic failures.
Has Permission Coin faced any controversy or risks?
Permission Coin has faced some controversy related to regulatory scrutiny and community governance issues. In early 2023, the project encountered challenges when certain regulatory bodies raised concerns about its compliance with local laws, particularly regarding data privacy and user consent mechanisms. The team responded by enhancing their compliance framework and engaging with legal experts to ensure adherence to applicable regulations. Additionally, there were community disputes regarding governance decisions, particularly around the allocation of funds for development versus marketing initiatives. The team addressed these concerns by implementing a more transparent governance model, allowing community members to vote on key decisions through a decentralized voting mechanism. Ongoing risks for Permission Coin include potential regulatory changes that could impact its operations and the inherent technical risks associated with blockchain technology, such as vulnerabilities in smart contracts. To mitigate these risks, the project has committed to regular security audits and maintaining open lines of communication with its user base to foster trust and transparency.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
